About this class:
Somatics offers the gift of awareness, embodiment and freedom. For many Yoga teachers and students it is love at first sight! Learn how to make the unconscious conscious and notice what transforms in your life and practice.
This class focuses on the dynamic relationship between your head, neck, shoulders and spine. We will focus on getting to the root of neck, shoulder and upper back pain as well as improving posture and upper body alignment in preparation for Yoga asana or any movement practice; combat computer shoulders, tech neck, and other repetitive strains; say goodbye to tension and hello to embodied poise and relaxation.
Somatic Movement Education (or Hanna Somatics) unites modern neuro-muscular science with ancient Yogic wisdom. Somatic movements offer a safe, fast, efficient and long-lasting way to release muscular contraction by engaging your nervous system. The exercises are simple and accessible yet incredibly profound and far reaching. They can be seamlessly incorporated into any practice and place the power of change firmly back into your hands. Students describe the work as ‘a life-raft’, ‘the missing link’, ‘magic’, ‘my essential tool-kit’ and oh so much more.
Come move, play and find out for yourself what somatics can do for your practice and your teaching. This class includes somatic exercises with a sprinkling of Yoga asana, embodied anatomy, breathwork, and guided relaxation.
‘Getting the knack of catching ourselves, of gently and compassionately catching ourselves is the way of the warrior’. - Pema Chodren
